Hello, I am an internist who strongly advocates breastfeeding and gives out info to all my pregnant patients encouraging breastfeeding. Today I encountered a patient who is 14 weeks gestation who has a long hx of dysthymia and was on Zoloft prior to pregnancy and discontinued when trying to get pregnant. Now she knows she would feel better if she could go back on Zoloft or Paxil while pregnant and was happy to know that she could breastfeed while on one of these drugs. Does anyone have any experience with pregnant woman on Zoloft or Paxil and the fetal outcome? Most books I have state that the evidence is inconclusive if these are safe during pregnancy. One study mentioned delayed ossification of the bones on Zoloft. This was the book called Drugs in Pregnancy and Lactation by Yaffe. I would like something I could give to the couple and the OB to read before prescribing either one of these drugs. There was a person recently looking for a Human Milk Bank that Accepts Donated Milk. I recently organized the donation of 9.5 liters of breastmilk to the Mother's Milk Bank at Valley Medical Center, San Jose, CA phone 408-998-4550. I hope this helps anyone interested in receiving or donating human milk for those in need. Thank you to anyone who replys to this post. This would make a world of difference in this couples life at least for the next 6 months of her pregnancy. CPT Cynthia S.
