To add to Barbara note re: taxpayers money to fund her education, I just would like to add that when the midshipmen are at the Academy, they DO have a choice by their Junior year to stay in, or get out, WITHOUT any time or $ payback. ( Keep in mind that they are not allowed to get married during their time at the Academy, or be married, or have children, not in that order) If they decide to get out then, they DO NOT have to pay anything for the education that they received for those two years! The start of their junior year brings forth the contract for their signature of the obligation of service for their time at the Academy. If during the last year or two, AFTER they have signed that agreement, that they decided to get out, they HAVE to pay for the education, or put time in as an enlisted member. Emma signed an agreement her junior year of her commitment to the service for the next 7 yrs (5 yrs past graduation). What her obligation was with her flying training is, I don't know. Also keep in mind, that while getting the free education, the midshipmen are also paid monthly for ALL four years. I believe a contract is a contract, an obligation is an obligation. Motherhood is extremely important to me and my 4 breastfed babies, but I think there is more to this story than Bf. What employer in the civilian sector would allow a 2 1/2 hr lunch? It never took me that long to pump..Also, military members are allowed 30 days PAID leave time a year.I didn't see the recent story, just thought I would add some facts. It was discussed at length a number of months ago on Lactnet. I will be going today to give a lecture to the Ob's on BF, and yesterday, it was the 3rd yr med students - both for the military, and at their request! In fact, this base has a pumping room for their employees, and rooming in for all new moms! Kathy Thorp BSN ICCE IBCLC "Go Navy, Beat Army"
