Kathy - <"Since bottle-feeding with formula is harmful to children's and mother's health, and since seeing a mother bottle-feeding teaches children to view it as a normal and healthy alternative to breastfeeding, which it is not, we ask that all mothers who *must* bottle-feed their children do so behind the screen in the corner, or in the private room down the hall, so as (1) not to offend others in the waiting area and (2) protect young children from seeing other children being fed in this unhealthy way."> I loved your suggestion but I know it will never happen here. To give you a little encoragement though, a few years ago I was visiting a rural postnatal clinic on the island of St. Vincent, in the Grenadines, West Indies. They are very pro-bf! I was asked to speak about bf to the moms and afterwards I read all the WHO posters on the wall. There was a large hand-lettered one that read "Any mother found bottlefeeding her baby will not be treated at this clinic." Can you imagine that in a pediatrician's office in the States? Instead of searching for a bf friendly practice, moms would have to search for a formula friendly practice. Cynthia D. Payne LLL of Berkshire County Mass.
