I suggest to expectant and new moms that bras in general are optional, wear
one if it is more comfortable to do so, but if worn the bra should be
roomy-supportive, and should not be so snug as to leave indentions in the
breast after removed. If breast are very heavy early postpartum it may be
more comfortable to have some roomy support. If it feels good to take off
your bra it is either too tight or you had it on for too long. For moms with
supply, plugged ducts, or mastitis situations I include this same advice. New
moms frequently tell me that the postpartum nurse told them to put on a bra
right away and wear it day and night - I remember learning that in nursing
school also. Has there already been a bra debate on Lactnet? Anyone have a
bra bib handy?
