While listening in to the discussion of reduced or free registration for MDs at BF conferences I thought I would share an innovative method for reaching a large number of MD with accurate, up-to-date information. On May 4 the NYS School of Public Health and the Dept of Health cosponsored the Second Lactation Institute Program via teleconference. Hospitals, community colleges, anyplace where there was down-loading capabilities could particiapte by registering. The conference was telecast all over New York state. The speakers were Ruth Lawrence, MD and Mary Applegate,MD, Medical Director of the Bureau of Women's Health. The two hour program was endorsed by the AAP, ACOG, AFP and awarded 2 CMEs in category one for MDs attending. Dr. Lawrence discussed the "basics" plus a lot more and Dr. Applegate introduced the "Best Practices for Breastfeeding" as recommended by the NYS Dept of Health. There was time for on-line Q & A . the quality of the program was excellent adn it was free! . For more information on how it was done and how many actually attended, contact Katarina Holbrook , SUNY School of Public Health at 518-402-0336 or e mail [log in to unmask] Barbara Hayes
