Hi all- In defense of Wal-Mart, I'm sure the approach has been dependent on the individual managers, as there seems to be no company policy. In our area, our local Healthy Start Coalition (a Florida statewide program that screens mothers/babies and coordinates multiple agency assistance when needed) has a Breastfeeding Station program. Businesses are asked to provide a spot for nursing mothers/babies and to display a logo decal at their entrance. One of our two Wal-Marts had a manager who was very pro-breastfeeding, and he helped to create a lovely little spot in the store, with a flower covered lattice wall for screening. The other Wal-Mart then wanted to do it too, so they wouldn't look bad. Since Wal-Mart is very good about supporting Family/children's ventures, and medical programs, I think breastfeeding support would be appropriate for optimal child health, don't you?? Perhaps we can convince them. Denise Mollenkopf, RNC, FACCE, IBCLC
