I am new to Lactnet and have been "lurking" for a while. I am currently an RN
in a level III ICN and also a resource nurse for our unit (I do research,
inservices, education, etc.). I am involved in a committee on breastfeeding
in the ICN. We are looking at everything from actual breastfeeding of premies
and ill neonates to kangaroo care, "alternative "feeding methods, use of the
breast pump, etc. We are also looking at HIV, drug use (legal and illegal),
maternal illness, etc... I am sure there are some things I forgot to mention.
Needless to say, this is a huge task. We are attempting to defragment our
approach with families where breastfeeding is concerned and need to learn and
educate ourselves more fully. I am looking for any input you all have in
regards to the above issues (and any others that relate to breastfeeding in
the ICN). Right now we are reviewing the literature and will soon be
preparing rough drafts of handouts, protocols, etc. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks,
