a local mom i "helped" breastfeed all of 5 weeks but quit anyway, likes the way it feels to "help" other moms she meets.....she has attended one LLL meeting and wants now to be a Lactation Consultant, she has money so she's going to take TWO yes (2) one week "courses" that guarantee her a CERTIFICATE" to be a CLC (after she takes the post conference TEST) so she's sent off to a pump company, is getting her home based business going and she calls me asking to come to my office and shadow me and teach her all the ways to start her own BUSINESS as an LC ( she was a dental hygenist) she wants me to show her all the "ins and outs of a rental-LC business......now I consider my self a pretty tolerant person and pretty easily "walked all over" and I "trained" another LC: gave her my forms so she could open her own "shop" all at the only remuneration of taking away clients...i still have my reputation but have lost out on potential revenue........ SOooooooooooo, do I roll out the red carpet and let her stick it to me or do i kindly say get lost? I really don't want to be sour grapes but HOW can a mom who couldn't tuff it for the simple scenario of colic-oversupply go to a couple of week courses go to a SINGLE LLL mtg and an area conference and hang out her CERTIFIED LACTATION CONSULTANT SHINGLE and get away with it? ( am i angry? NOOOOOOOOO not me!) I have a PROBLEM with this and I need to call her back soon I have put her off long enough but I am pretty stressed these days and want to be gracious....HELP! What is it with these INSTANT CLC courses anyway are we cranking them out like rabbits? if so many are going to consider a CLC as a "profesional" regardless of her experience what is this going to do for the professionalism we have worked so hard for in ILCA-IBCLC-FLCA Ps how much should I charge her for a business consult what is the going rate? by the hour or the day? we are in Podunk FLA.... thank you for the catharsis even if you have no ideas......ruthy
