I also am not sure about the moral and ethical questions that follows
distributing free pumps from an abm company. BUT....I was thinking about how
this will affect my WIC moms. I am thinking that with Premier
Contracts----WIC moms will NOT be included in the 80%. I have a good friend
that works in the nursery of a hospital where they have just signed a Premier
contract, which includes the breast pump from Ross Labs. She told me that
her hospital will not be distributing these to WIC moms, since WIC does not
use Ross abm. This could change when WIC's contract is up with Mead Johnson.
So, I am guessing that these pumps are not going to be handed out to "poor
women" that could not afford a breast pump otherwise. They will most likely
be handed out to women that can afford to purchase abm (the brand that they
like best, maybe the one that "helped'" them bf by furnishing a breast pump).
Seems to me that if this is true, (that these pumps will not be given to WIC
moms), that this speaks volumes on how the abm companies want to help women
breastfeed. Just my .02.
