Linda, and all, This has got to be frustrating. Isn't it interesting, and sad,, that a Mom will consult with THREE different doctors, not one who will see what needs to be seen, and yet she "does not want to come in... all telephone still," to see you. I also work with a mom who had shooting pains in the breasts during, and between feeds, slighly puffy areola, slighly puffy Montgomery glands, and had been diagnosed but not treated with both a vaginal yeast infection,AND yeast in her throat at the end of pregnancy( why he wouldn't treat her is a long story, something about yo-yoing between UTIs and yeast, and thinking that if the yeast was treated she'd get another UTI). We discussed the need to think about yeast as a factor in her BF, and MD said, it sounds like a plugged duct, and to put on hot compresses before feedings. Mom was mistaking the Montgomery's for "plugged ducts" but I didn't know this until I saw her a few days after our phone conversation, so I think she told the MD she had "lumps". I for one am going to check out Chris's Midwifery Today piece, to have in my information arsenal for women who want info on how to help themselves when others won't. Interesting abut this situation is that the mom thought the yeast track made sense, but never went out and bought the Lotrimin, she's using the compresses as per the MD. Still some shooting pain occassionally. Two days ago she called asking how does one use Gentian Violet? Shared info with her. I told her I would love to be wrong about this, but it doesn't make sense to rule out yeast just because no one sees " anything" on her breast or in baby';s mouth or diaper, esp, with her history. Linda, I am interested to hear what happens with the mom you are working with. Good luck to you, mom and the baby. Judy Fram, Brooklyn, NY
