Hi, A mother in our LLL group had some unusual difficulties both with PPD and breastfeeding difficulties. Her case is a bit complicated, and she is looking for anyone who might give her any insights or avenues to try. Here is her case taken from a letter she sent last week: Jan '94 she miscarried at 7 weeks, suffered extreme cramping into March '94 which was 4 weeks into next pregnancy. Pregnancy normal except she felt highly emotional ("like heavy PMS") as well as zero breast changes. Baby borth 3 weeks early, vaginal birth with pitocin. Baby had weak suck, when milk came in she had low supply. She then experienced severe PPD (suicidal), with insomnia and extreme tension. Blood work 2 mos PP showed all hormonal levels normal. Two tests since have shown same. She nursed for 26 mos using SNS and baby is thriving. She was then diagnosed with arrested breast development, strong asymmetry and small breasts. Last month Saliva tests show her hormones are at menopausal levels. She is 33 yrs. This mother would love to have another baby, but is terrified it will be a repeat. She says she has started hormonal therapy, although she does not state what she is doing. Any ideas, comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. While we are on this subject, I would love to hear suggestions on helping mothers with PPD. Thanks! Kari Miller, LLL CO/WY APL
