I am way behind in reading my posts. First my sister was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes when she was 17 mo old (in 1967). She was in a coma and almost died before some one decided to see if it was diabetes. The pediatrician had no idea back then what to look for. Get a second opinion. For case where mom told to wean so diabetes could be managed, that seems pretty unreasonable. Blood sugar levels will have to be monitored by blood test (finger pricks) anyway to keep baby in tight control and if intake of breastmilk is really of concern pre and post feed weighs could be done to determine amount of milk consumed.
