I am way behind in reading my posts. First my sister was diagnosed with
juvenile diabetes when she was 17 mo old (in 1967). She was in a coma and
almost died before some one decided to see if it was diabetes. The
pediatrician had no idea back then what to look for. Get a second opinion.

For case where mom told to wean so diabetes could be managed,  that seems
pretty unreasonable. Blood sugar levels will have to be monitored by blood
test (finger pricks) anyway to keep baby in tight control and if intake of
breastmilk is really of concern pre and post feed weighs could be done to
determine amount of milk consumed.
