Laura,
The mom might paint her nipples (as well as baby's mouth) & aerolas with
gentian violet.  It worked for me when  my kids & I had thrush.
Something else that has been helpful to mother's who call me is using
acidophilus powder (available at health food stores).  In  THE BABY BOOK
by Wm Sears (my favorite child care book) on pg 109, he says spread a
fingertip of acidophilus powder on the thrush 2x day for a week.  I've
had the mom take acidolphilus capsules & eat plain yogurt with active
cultures to increase the good bacteria in her own body.
