<<<Which also brings to mind...Do we recommend nursing bras for comfort or to "preserve the figure"? >>> Personally I spend more time encouraging mothers to leave off their bras at least some of the day, and certainly at night, for better lymphatic drainage. I saw somewhere recently that more bra wearing, especially at night, has been related to breast cancer. Something about the lymphatic drainage not being so efficient at clearing out toxins or whatever. I blame bras for lots of problems, although I do recognise that some mothers need them for support - but surely not all their waking hours. For preserving the breasts, I teach slow weaning. I have read that, second only to pregnancy, rapid weaning is what ruins the look of breasts. If this is not true please don't disabuse me of this belief as many a baby has had months of extra breastmilk while mothers followed my advice and were kind to their breasts.
