Hi All, the severely allergic, 6mo baby who's mother is relactating is doing so well it's like a miracle :-) Currently, the mother, E-, is pumping about 5oz a day with a hospital grade pump, but she has only had the electric pump for 2 days (she did the initial relactation work with a manual pump). Her schedule is to pump 10 minutes every 2 hours during the day, and four hourly at night - she doesn't look at her output at all, but just does it according to the clock. She finds this stops her obsessing about how much she is producing. She collects all the milk in a bottle and gives it to the baby last thing at night, as one feed. E- is supposed to give Gaviscon with every feed, to stop the baby vomiting it back up due to reflux, but she forgot the other day and discovered the baby can keep breastmilk down with no difficulties. The baby is putting on weight about 1/2oz a day now and her face is filling out. Her mood is much more cheerful, and the wonderful news this morning was that she had slept 8 hours for the first time in her life! (up until recently, she went 2 hours at most at night). E- is thrilled and believes totally in the value of her breastmilk in this dramatic improvement. Even her sceptical doctors are having to eat their words. The dream now is to provide all this baby's needs from EBM plus solids. E- would also like to nurse, but I think she's seeing that as something in the future. -- Anna (mummy to Emma, born 17th Jan 1995 and Alice, born 11th Sept 1996) Email: [log in to unmask] Web Page: http://www.ratbag.demon.co.uk/anna
