I'm working with a mother who is currently 6 weeks pregnant. She has a 2 yr
old who breastfeeds 4/5x a day. She miscarried at 12 weeks earlier this
year. Both her MD and midwife are urging her to wean, due to the
possibility of uterine contractions causing another miscarriage. She is a
healthy woman, with no history of uterine abnormalities. I have shared with
her the section on breastfeeding and pregnancy in the Breastfeeding Answer
Book, but she would like a specific reference. I have searched the
archives, to no avail. Does anyone have a specific reference that refutes
this notion that, in an otherwise normal pregnancy, breastfeeding could
cause contractions such that a miscarriage might occur?

Thanks in advance.
