Trisa, What a thrill it was to hear you have joined LACTNET. I know you will learn gobs and gobs! I certainly have! In the June issue of JHL (Journal of Human Lactation) there is an article about nursing students and their need for better lactation education. There is also a research article about how nurses' attitudes and behaviors affect breastfeeding. The nurse is the first one at the bedside to help with breastfeeding those critical first few minutes/hours/days after breastfeeding. Everything the nurse says and does has a major inpact on the breastfeeding outcome. IMHO, EVERY nurse that comes in contact with a lactating mother should have a minimum certification as a CLE. I am really tired of nurses giving out misinformation. There is NO EXCUSE! So here's to you Trisa! Welcome aboard and enjoy LACTNET! Donna Zitzelberger, RN BSN CLE getting off the soapbox now
