Dear Cindy, Haberman feeders can be used for a variety of problems. I find it very useful for premies learning to breastfeed. The Haberman valve and specialized nipple hole regulate the flow. Therefore you can tease an premie out of non-nutritive suck (NNS) into nutritive suck (NS). I have had excellent success. It can be used on any young baby when for one reason or another the mother is about to give up on BF. She pumps and feeds with the Haberman on Zero flow. When mom recovers the baby goes easily back to the breast. Good Luck, Trina Ammar, RNC, IBCLC Monterey, CA
