Two bills which address barriers to breastfeeding are ready to be introduced
in the PA Senate by Senator Allyson Y. Schwartz. The PA Coalition on
Breastfeeding is seeking help from breastfeeding advocates in Pennsylvania
who can help educate their own senators (and later their representatives)
about the issues covered by the bills:1) a woman's right to breastfeed in any
location, public or private, where she is otherwise authorized to be; and 2)
clarifying that breastfeeding does not constitute indecent assault, indecent
exposure, open lewdness, or sexual abuse of children. We are looking for
senators from both parties who are willing to co-sponsor the bill, as well as
for future support when it is voted upon.

We also need to hear stories from women who have been harrassed when
breastfeeding in public (or in private). These stories can demonstrate the
need for the legislation. Lactation consultants, mother support group
leaders, health care professionals, and WIC counsellors are in frequent
contact with breastfeeding women and are most likely to be told such stories.
Names, dates, and places add to the power of the story.

Please e-mail me privately for more information.
