I am not sure what the etiology behind the excessive milk production is that you describe, but I am curious if anyone here has experience with sage tea for drying up milk. When I was breastfeeding my second baby, I relied on herbal medicine a fair amount (several years ago) and used a remedy that contained sage, willow bark, and white oak once when I thought I was coming down with the flu. I drank two cups in the evening, and my flu symptoms were gone by morning but I also had a very noticable decrease in milk supply. I later read that sage tea is suggested for drying up one's milk. When I did my clinical rotation in nurse-mdiwifery school, my preceptor routinely suggested her non breastfeeding postpartum moms drink a few cups of sage tea, and moms who tried it didn't like the taste but stated that it helped. No problems were ever noted by the moms who had used it. I have read that sage has estrogenic effects (but doesn't contain estrogen). I am wondering if drinking a little of the tea might be helpful to this mom, but also wondering if anyone knows of any potential adverse effects. Just a thought.
