Hi MS Kenady!!! I am hoping you will be my good luck charm again.... last time, I got right on when I sent you the e-mail. have tried about 5-6 more times to get through and the lines are all busy. Grrrr. That irritates me. >Martha the Super Sleuth!! . I can't believe it! You got my message >and Lactnet won't reply to any more. They said I tried 20 times and >now I'm going to be ignored unless another person sends the follwing >command to [log in to unmask]: SERVE [log in to unmask] You have to send your messages to be posted on Lactnet to "[log in to unmask]". You are sending your messages to the listserv which is the "organ" that just decides if you are nomail or set mail or whatever the commands are.... Try sending to "lactnet" as addressed in the second line of this paragraph. > I only sent them two, the first was sent back, so tried again... >have you sent a note to Lactnet??? what am I or my pc doing wrong? >You aren't out of the loop the loop hasn't reached us yet. So we need to get looped???? tee hee. >The big question tonite on lactnet concerns baby's volume vs calories >...Does a 6# baby need as much as a 12# baby?? I think I've always >believed that baby's consume basically between 24oz (6# )to 32 oz a >day until about six months when we begin solids. The question isn't >one so much of calories but of the volume of the tummy. The smaller >the tummy the more often they eat, just less and the bigger the tummy >the more they eat, just less often. What do you think?? I think that when babies have frequency days that they are getting more of the fatty milk and may be getting more calories (like when we pig out on chocolate Easter Eggs). I guess I never really thought about the volume issue. I always did think that there were volume changes. I think Michael Woolridge at ILCA last year said that the milk volume pretty much stays the same after about 6 weeks. (He puts it that the breasts are trying to decide how big the baby is and make the determination based on amount of milk removed.) Also, we >have twins now, one exclusively bf the other exclusively on the >bottle (mom says its easier) my consultants are wondering about >ethical responibility as far as bonding and immunities, etc. she >doen't really seem to care (the mom) just what is easy. >signing off for now, lactnet doen't want me ...... love C I'd say they need to document that the mother has full information regarding the risks and benefits of HM and ABM and that they cannot take ethical responsibility for the mother's decision. It is out of their hands. All any of us can do is to give informed consent to mothers. She is conducting an in vivo experiment (IMHO). Would be an interesting one to follow up on. Maybe she'd like to consent to providing health information on the babies for the first year of life (like number and duration etc. of infections, etc.) Of course, I immediately conjured up the picture of that Indian woman with the baby that died. HOpe this goes through. Time to paint my nails, eat my bon bons and worry about what celebrity low fat recipe I will prepare tomorrow night while I read People Magazine and learn all the dirt about my favorite entertainers...... NOT!! (How shallow!!) Love and hugs, M
