>Got a message from a friend whose ped told her that infants under age of 3 >months have a special reflex if you squeeze in the center of an infant's >palm, he will open his mouth. Any credence to this? I've read that, and I've tried it, but I don't get much of a result. The closest I can come is massaging the palm in a firm, circular manner keeps the baby nursing (some babies, that is). What would be the use of such a maneuver? To get enough BrM into a baby that is excessively sleepy but needs the kcal. I often wish I could find a button that would make them open wide! I'm interested in whether other Lactnetters make use of this reported reflex. Arly in Northern Utah [log in to unmask] MS, CLE, IBCLC
