I consider "Reviving Ophelia:Saving the Selves of Adolescent Girls" as "must" reading. Written by Mary Pipher, Ph.D., a psychologist who works with adolescent girls and young women, it is a damning indictment of our poisonous pop culture and its "junk values" (think MTV, etc). Yes, things are very different and very dangerous out there compared to when we were that age. Useful reading for anyone who cares about young women and esp. us because we either are now or soon will be working with them. Another valuable book is Laurie Garrett's "The Coming Plague: Newly Emerging Diseases in a World Out of Balance". Both are available in paperback Would enjoy hearing comments from anyone who has read either book. We probably should keep detailed book discussion via private e-mail. Thanks.
