Hi, All: Thanks to all who gave me suggestions for mu colleague whose ten-week-old baby had just started breastfeeding after being bottle fed EBM and abm due to a frustrating nipple confusion problem. It seems that once this baby got the right idea, the problems of breast pain and baby "popping off" seemed to resolve on their own and the baby is now exclusively breastfed! What an admiration I have for this lady, persevering against all odds, offering the breast gently and repeatedly while continuing to pump and bottle feed. It's also amazing that nipple confusion is not necessarily irreversible; perhaps it is an issue of maturation for some babies. This has been a real learning experience. Let's all keep giving mothers the facts about the choice they're making. I really believe the reason this mother persevered was because she was convinced of the vital importance of doing so. Alicia.
