I have to react to that post (by whom, I am sorry) where the rule in the hospital is to call in the LC if a mother asks for supplementation in the hospital. Though the idea is good (solve the problem), I wonder about mother's reaction... When I asked for supplementation for my first two babies, at day two and constantly on the breast, I was crying out of tiredness (medicalized births, no weight loss from either baby, no sore nipple, no painful engorgement, no problem). One bottle, and back on the breast, two breastfeeding episodes extremely satisfying. Was it luck or only supreme self-confidence ? By the way, I resented the nurse who questioned my decision, the second time... I knew what I was doing, right ? (not ...) Third baby, perfect birth, no bottle, worst possible nipple problems... My question: what is the part of self-confidence vs technicalities (sp?) Louise Denhez, M.D., M.P.H Chargee d'enseignement clinique Departement de medecine sociale et preventive
