Had to share what turned into a terrific afternoon-even tho I lost= one of my favorite earrings (only one, so pair is ruined) AND it was still= -27=B0F with windchill when I had to venture out. My garage door lock had= frozen, so it cost me $35 just to get my car out of the garage! Not a good= omen for the rest of the day. Anyway, I was invited to do a brief 1-hour presentation to home health= care nurses whose company is developing a mother-baby service. In the= course of the prsetnation, (keeping things very simple), I decided to focus= on positioning. One woman sitting next to me was nibbling on a cookie so I asked= her to be a model. I asked her to take a bite of the cookie. Of course, she= faced the cookie and took a bite and chewed and then swallowed it. I asked= her how it felt to swallow and she said, "wonderful, and it was tasty,= too!"=20 Everyone laughed. Then I asked her to look at me, turning her head over her shoulder.= Then I asked her to take another bite of the cookie, keeping her head over= her shoulder. She took antoher big bite and then said, "I can't swallow= it in this position." (Couldn't have said it better myself). We then= talked about what a baby feels like when only her/his head is facing the= breast.=20 Talk about a teachable moment! I have tried this with water in the= past, but it is a) more likely to be messy and b) doesn't stay so obviously= in the mouth and thus be so difficult to swallow. I recommend cookies= or a piece of cracker for this. I figure the best thing about the demo-besides the fact everyone= enjoyed watching the model-was the fact that they are not likely to forget= what she said to my question. Enjoy and anyone who wants to should feel free to "own" this demo= for themselves. =20 =20 Def. of LC service: "We are all faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as impossible situations." =20 Kathleen G.
