This is a gray area, especially if we profit from our pump sales, which most
of us do. I give moms a written statement that I have a financial interest in
the products I carry and will provide them with a list of other outlets if
they wish to go elsewhere or to price-shop. I always make sure to tell them
how do hand express and cup-feed, which accomplish the same purposes and do
not require a purchase of equipment.

It's all in how you say it, I believe (not a lawyer). Instead of saying "you
should," suggest that mother might want to consider what others have done
with products they disliked for any reason - return them to the
store/manufacturer saying why the product was unsatisfactory.

I also tell mothers why I carry the brands I do - because in my professional
experience, they are effective and comfortable to use. I don't go into
details on why I do not carry other products. It is my right as a private
business owner to carry any products I determine to be in my best interest to
sell.
