I have had fun reading of all the places in literature where breastfeeding has been mentioned. Since I am a science fiction nut case, I had to post the name of a very famous woman in the science fiction pages who breastfed. In the Star Wars movies, some of you may remember Princess Leia, twin sister of Luke Skywalker, the master Jedi Knight. In the books that have been published following these movies, Princess Leia marries Han Solo (you knew that had to happen!). In the book, "The Last Command," Princess Leia gives birth to twins. There is almost a full page describing her breastfeeding the twins in bed, with Han Solo looking on. This is one of the most sensitive passages on breastfeeding that I have seen lately in fiction. Obviously we now know what the source is for the power of the FORCE that Jedi Knights use to do battle for the good side. I am not sure which component of breastmilk contains the source of the FORCE (polyunsaturated fatty acids? probably one of those modulators). However, it was certainly rewarding to see that all of our efforts to support breastfeeding are paying off for the future of the universe. May the FORCE be with you.
