I'm sick as a dog--had to come home from work cuz I couldn't hold my head up. Came home & went to bed, but couldn't sleep because Lactnet was calling me. (Maybe WE need the 12 Step group to get ourselves straightened out and then we can offer help to our Adult Children of....) <G> The issue interrupting my sleep last nite & today (now that I've got the sex-for-pleasure under control) is Marie. Someone has already posted my thoughts, but I'd like to add a little. A case conference would allow you to: Find out what the missed signals, clues were. I agree with the Borderline Personality Disorder "dx"--it was my first thought when I read the story. Believe me they give out *flaming* signals. Confront the lack of cohesiveness in staff, particularly lack of support for LC. They don't have to like that she's their, but they ARE obliged to support and treat her with respect (in and out of the pt's presence). I want to know why an LCSW wasn't called in. Most hospitals provide some form of brief therapy/support for families undergoing trauma and I'd say this one qualifies. Furthermore, that would allow for assessing her safety, which I was glad someone brought up. IMHO, if this woman goes home to a beating/murder, some of the responsibility lies with the hospital's negligence in screening (that's the law in CA) Finally, it would be good to brainstorm a "next time" plan. Although I've seen other HCPs get the short end of things, LCs seem to get it the worst. We are the only ones who will change it. We are having record heat in CA, which isn't helping my feverish brow. We gave our daughter & grandaughter a trip to KY--before they left she said "I'm really praying for snow" Now you Easterners know who too blame. :>) Fading fast from too long on the Soapbox. Nancy PS--I guess I'm not done with sex---I doubt that most American women are troubled by their low libido, as they are too busy with baby (as Kathy described). I think the upset comes when hubby is pressuring. Any hope of re-educating our male people on that one?
