Dear Judy, Your letter has made me realize that perhaps I,ve been unclear= as to what we are=20 looking for. I work as a nurse in a maternity ward and we have women who = don"t want to BF or=20 can't =FDbreastfed. We turned to cabbage leaves inorder to provide these = women with a safe and=20 comfortable way to stop lactation or to soften the breasts in women who t= hrough poor Bf=20 management have become engorged. Bromocriptine has been prohibited by the= Health Ministry as a=20 drug for cessation of lactation, Diuretics don't work...and sometimes we = are concerned about=20 electrolyte imbalance and binding breasts make me nervous. (I was very ha= ppy to read a few years=20 ago a letter by a concerned reader (JHL) questioning the long range cons= equences of=20 binding...Has anybody researched this...or know of any research?) Silvi's= work was based on the=20 mothers' subjective evaluation of her relief. We were seeking a way to me= asure the=20 change in the breasts inorder to design a research protocol.I hope this w= ill clear up the=20 confusion. Sincerely Toby. ........ ------------------------------------- Name: Toby Gish R.N.IBCLC E-mail: Toby Gish <[log in to unmask]> Date: 06/01/96 Time: 08:16:27 AM This message was sent by Chameleon=20 -------------------------------------
