Greetings--
My Internet provider managed to mess up my e-mail account and I've gone a
whole week without e-mail, hence no Lactnet. Serious withdrawal pangs.

I did take advantage of that down time, however, to read Kathy Dettwyler's
new book (co-edited with Patricia Stuart-Macadam): Breastfeeding:
Biocultural Perspectives and want to rave about it to everyone. The chapter
on weaning is extremely interesting, as is the chapter on co-sleeping and
SIDS. Actually, ALL the chapters are great and very readable. This is a
fabulous text that I hope every medical and nursing student, especially
(along with budding anthropologists, of course) will have assigned. Looking
at breastfeeding from a cultural/anthropological perspective just gives such
a different slant on the whole topic. If you haven't seen the book, give
yourself a Christmas/Hannukah present and get it. Am I excited about this
book? You bet!
