Some of you will have heard Heather Harris speak on rebirthing in the bath at the ILCA Conference this year. It is a technique she developed to help babies who have latch-on difficulties. This week I spent a day with Heather at the Royal Women's Hospital in Melbourne where she is now the LC. We visited one mother who Heather had helped earlier in the day, but despite having had one good feed the baby (Day 3) would not latch on again. Heather tried a few techniques, with the mother sitting and lying, to no avail. "Oh well, we'll try what we did this morning" she said and the mother stipped off to the waist and lay down on the bed while Heather undressed the baby completely and laid her on the mother's tummy. Within seconds the baby was rooting and seaching for the breast, which she found easily and latched on well for a good feed. She was covered over with a blanket and a nappy tucked underneath. The message: You don't even need a bath to rebirth. Ros Escott <[log in to unmask]> Tasmaina, Australia
