Alicia-- I agree with you that family physicians are a good source for bf women. Where I live, there are no specialists and I've come to see this as a "good thing." The family doc gets to know the whole family, usually, and sees the mother and baby through prenatal, birth, and postpartum. Too many women fall through the cracks, from what I have observed in urban areas, when they have an OB who isn't terribly interested in the baby, and the Pediatrician, who may or may not be terribly interested in the mother. Seems like an odd combination to me, particularly when breastfeeding is involved. A good family physician is a fabulous resource!
