I spoke to the people at the toll-free number given on the bottle of brand name lactase drops. They informed me that the drops only work when put into milk for 24 hrs. in order to break down the milk sugar. She said if they are taken with the dairy product, nothing would happen - they would not work. I would have to question those that say they work when mom puts drops on the nipples of babies who seem to act as if they are lactose intolerant. I was told that only the tablets act on dairy products that are injested. About that puffy 11 lb. baby who seems to be losing weight even though there are plenty of wet diapers and stools. I would ask the doctor to take careful height measurements and head circumference measurements and monitor baby that way for awhile rather than how many ounces he gains or loses per week. I would also make sure that whomever does the measuring takes the time and knows what they are doing. In my area, we get incredibly inaccurate height measurements from doctors offices.
