Just a quick posting to sort out what seems to be some confusion as to who and what is NABA. The National Alliance for Breastfeeding Advocacy, Inc. (NABA) and the NABA Research, Education, and Legal Fund, INC (NABA REAL) were founded with the purpose of providing existing breastfeeding organizations in the US with a focus and a proactive forum. Both organizations were begun by Barbara Heiser, Marsha Walker, and Karin Cadwell. The three of us are the only staff and serve as the only members of the board of directors. Our mission is "to coordinate efforts by organizations, agencies, institutions, and individuals towards the development of strategic plans, policies, and goals for breastfeeding reform in the US. This will be accomplished through national, state, and local breastfeeding leadership forums, where implementation will occur." We felt this posting was necessary in light of the flurry of breastfeeding advocacy work, interest, and personal web pages that are springing up. Currently, our only form of regular communication is through our quarterly newsletter, "Abreast of Our Times" which members can subscribe to. We do NOT have a web page. The ONLY official announcements come through postings by either Barbara or Marsha. If you have any questions, concerns, or want more information, please contact either one of us: Barbara Heiser at: [log in to unmask] Marsha Walker at: [log in to unmask]
