Diane,

When I talk to parents about nipple confusion, I say something like "you guys
eat with a knife and fork and if you were very hungry you would not like your
meal served to you with chopsticks.  Your baby is hungry and wants to eat and
the bottle is like the knife and fork to him.  When you give him the breast
(which he has not had before) it is like giving him chopsticks and telling
him to go ahead and eat."

Unfortunately, I worked at a hospital where most C-section moms were denied
BF by the pediatricians until they were off all meds (pain meds,
antibiotics).  Bottle feeding was the only alternate offered and so there was
alot of nipple confusion.
