An acquaintance of mine who happens to be a Family Physician is planning to go back to work at the end of October and would like to continue breastfeeding if possible. Her older 22 month old daughter was breastfeed until 10 months, and was weaned when she returned to work. She states that she would have preferred to continue to bf but because of her frequent night call during her residency, it did not work out for her and the baby. Her second daughter whom she is presently bfeeding will be 5 1/2 mos. by the time she does night call. She will be working 3 to 5 days a week and doing one 24 hour "on-call" during that time period. I have made some suggestions on how to work and continue bfing. She remains somewhat unconvinced. She is aware of the Lactnet existence and agrees that I share this information with my Lactnet sisters and brothers . She is looking forward to reading all the suggestions and advice that you may wish to share with her. You may E-mail me personally and I will make sure that the messages are forwarded to her personally. I'm supposed to have helped one of her sisters-in-law breastfeed successfully. By the way, this baby is a pure bundle of health. This woman seems to be committed to continue to breastfeed and I feel that with a bit of support, she will be successful in continuing. Looking forward in being flooded with all your comments. Rosemarie, St. Paul, Alberta, Canada close to the North Pole and to Santa Claus.
