Hello All,

This past spring the Minister of Agriculture in British Columbia Canada
introduced the Farm Practices Protection (Right to Farm) Act which is designed
to "protect farmers who follow acceptable farming standards, assist local
governments in planning for agriculture and improve relationships between
farm/non-farm neighbours." Part of the process involves developing standards for
normal farm practice which could be used as a basis for assessing whether a
practice is a nuisance. Cross-industry standards will be developed but some
commodity groups will be involved in developing specific standards for their
industries.

The British Columbia Honey Producers' Association is contemplating the
development of beekeeping standards and have asked me to pull together some
background material for the annual general meeting this fall. If any of you have
such things as beekeeping ordinances, local by-laws, codes of conduct and (too
much to hope) standards of practice for beekeeping I would much appreciate
receiving copies.

Please send your response to me at the adress below. I can then make
arrangements for postage if necessary.

Thanks for your time,
