Dear Sue L.,
I would also be interested in seeing An argument against the existance of
nipple confusion. The babies I see often get bottles in the hospital. With
early discharge staff are frantic to get babies feeding early. They are
sometimes too agressive with the babies, sometimes using Supplemental Feeding
Systems. There is also a lot of concern about low glucose. They are testing
babies and if they are below 40( could someone explain what these numbers
mean) they insist on formula. Anyway I see a lot of babies who were
breastfeeding well and then were given a bottle for some reason and then
could not feed well at breast. The motion that the baby's mouth, tongue and
lips do is completely different for bottle than breast. If it isn't nipple
confusion, what is it?
