Hi all:

Generally speaking (and we don't have signs/symptoms), panic attacks are
associated with anxiety disorders rather than mood disorders, such as
depression of any kind. There is some recognition of a possible postpartum
anxiety disorder. I have seen/diagnosed anxiety disorders in women postpartum
when working in mental health. There is a type of anxiety disorder that has
features of depression too.

Neither of these is anything to mess with--refer to a mental health
specialist. Ask client if she ever thinks of hurting herself or someone else.
(Clients will tell you if you ask matter-of-factly.) If she says yes, ask
whether she has a plan--the more detailed it is, the more she needs mental
health help ASAP. Depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation tend to go
together.
