Hi, all! Nice to see so many new folks joining in! As a quick reintroduction, I'm an IBCLC, and LLL Leader here in RURAL western Tennessee (after having moved from the metro Atlanta area last summer). I have a miniscule private practice that hopefully will grow with time, and in the meantime, most of my time is spent doing LLL stuff (I'm Area Professional Liaison for TN and a Contributing Editor for Leaven), and helping my hubby with his newly started wood craft business. I have 2 children: Dan just turned 12, and Merrilee is 8. Now a question: What is the latest recommendation as far as Prozac goes? I'm working with a mom who recently lost a baby at 19 weeks gestation and is struggling to get past that. She is currently nursing a 3yo who is nursing quite a bit right now, perhaps as a way to deal with her mother's emotional state. Her therapist has recommended that she start on Prozac with a minimum dosage (20mg at bedtime), and she is waiting to talk with the dr who will actually prescribe the drug. I read her the stuff in the latest Ruth Lawrence which makes it sound like it is a reasonably compatible drug for the nursing mother, and most of the info is geared toward the new mother, rather than the mother who is nursing an older child. I was just curious as to whether there was any more current info on this drug and possible side effects for the nursling? Dr. Harry--this is NOT the time to sit on your hands!! <grin> Thanks in advance. Melissa Vickers, IBCLC
