The Department of Urban Archaeology, Museum of London's reference
manual _Identifying Shoes_, Jo Groves, 1984 may be of interest.
The Museum of London has also published a good book on medieval
shoes (which I don't have, so cannot give further details).

Northampton Museum is the place to enquire about shoes.
