On a somewhat different topic, my county extension agent wants to know if streptomycin used to treat apple trees in blossom to control fire blight poses any problems to bees. I told her not to my knowledge. We feed bees terramycin and in the past have used other antibiotics. My guess is no problem, either to bees or to contamination of hive products, since the bees aren't storing any surplus honey at this time of year. I checked my pesticide databases, no tests for streptomycin listed in them. If anyone has any hard evidence one way or the other, will you please forward it. I told Jennie I would toss this one to the list. Thanks Jerry Bromenshenk The University of MT [log in to unmask]
