RE:  Feeding dry sugar in winter.
The late P.F.(Roy) Thurber advocted feeding only Drivert, a special
baking sugar, as emergency winter rations.  I understand this can
sometimes be purchased from bakeries.  Roy believed that sucrose
was not very effective as dry winter feed, although I have used it
with success - at least my bees made it through the winter.
