The honey supers because, I am told, that 8 or 9 frames hold more honey than 10. The brood box because with 10 frames, the frames are often hard to remove. One of the reasons for this problem is the border. I understand that in the US, 3/4" lumber is used for hive boxes whereas north of the border, in Ontario at least, 7/8" lumber is used but the outside dimensions of the boxes are the same as in the US. The inside dimensions here, therefore, are 1/4" smaller than in the US so that 10 frames are a tighter fit.
