Why can't there be both? Beesource has its reason & audience and so does
BEE-L. I like that they have distinct voice and as a reader (and primarily
lurker on both) I get to follow what I want on both. Sometimes it's good
to contrast the science with what the "masses" are saying and make up
one's own mind when it comes to your own bees.

I do feel self-conscious that I would waste everyone's time posting a
basic beekeeping question here, which I have no problem with Beesource.
But I do very much enjoy reading the complex science threads, even though
it's pretty much the same people posting. Rock on! It's being read,
absorbed and when possible (and understood, :-)) disseminated to bee clubs
and other, less informed beekeepers willing to listen.
