I am allergic to wool or at least think I am. I get hives from wool. I have never tried lanolin for fear of a reaction. When I do help mothers with lanolin on their breasts my hands do get itchy. Many many lotions, chapsticks, diaper creams, makeup have lanolin in them. I do not react to those things but the reason I put them on for doesn't get any better and normally gets worse. For example, if I put on lotion for dry skin that has lanolin in it then my skin tends to get more dry instead of better. Sorry I do not have evidence to help prove or disprove just personal experience.
