This has been bothering me. In Australia, pacifier use (here called "dummies") is close to universal. Many the pacifier designs hold the upper lip down. I recently noticed that, even after release of tight upper lip ties, some parents are using these pacifiers. The idea of not using one seems alien to them. Pacifier use is regarded as so "normal" here that, when I mentioned this, the parents just said they were minimising the pressure on the lip from the pacifier! The way I see it, it is counter productive to have a tight upper lip released, and then, while the wound is still healing and needs to heal *open*, using a device that holds the lip down. If parents aren't actually using a dummy (pacifier) during a consult, it is easy to miss raising this matter with them. I am mentioning this here as some of you may have noticed the same, or will want to discuss the matter with parents in the future.
