Kansas Department of Agriculture requirements follow FDA requirements. Since honey is considered antiseptic and low risk, bottles (plastic or glass) sealed from the manufacturer are considered ready for bottling. If they are received unsealed or reused, they must be washed, rinsed and disinfected in three different adjoining sinks and then air dried. Automated commercial washing systems are preferred as long as the third cycle disinfects and then dries internally or externally.
