Barbara, I understand that. My point is a nurse is hired as a nurse - so being moved for staffing needs understandable (usually told before hand - when you come in later today report to this area instead). Hiring someone for lactation and saying we also want a nurse to pull you away from your job to work somewhere else should also as unacceptable as pulling IT people to do maintence/cleaning neither one does direct patient care but they still aren't interchangeable. My friend works in HR she doesn't get pulled into admitting or billing or another business department, she was hired to work in HR. Hopefully someday hospitals will start treating the hospital LC's with the same respect as other hospital workers. Meaning the work you do is valuable so you will always do that job unless you want to transfer to another department (with the proper training/experience), not that we will only hire you if you are also a nurse so we can pull you out to do some important work. Which if you think about it could be applied any job in a hospital.
